We were given a task of creating a man-powered device capable of carrying a competing dodgeball player. The device had functional requirements as followed.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This device must be able to transport a 300 pound rider

  • It must be able to travel at consistent 3-4 mph walking speed

  • It should be able to turn at a radius of less than 5 feet.

  • It must also weigh less than 35 pounds

  • Must be able to fit inside a 5’x5’x5’ box

BRAINSTORMING

The very first step to tackling this project was to brainstorm and come up with as many solutions to the problem as possible. Each group member individually came up with ten different designs that could possibly be built under the functional requirements

RESULTS

The device we created was strong enough to hold the 300 pounds we anticipated. It also met all of our requirements. Our design was able to work for the first 5 rounds before the axle bent and broke.
